The film “Goodbye, Till Tomorrow” is not only a story about unhappy love. This basically uncomplicated story is readable by everyone. It is universal – just as love stories are. Maybe many of us were once Jacek, maybe someone once acted like Margueritte?
Janusz Morgenstern’s film is also a story about Gdańsk – not only about its picturesque monuments and recognizable places where the film’s characters appear, but also about the artistic atmosphere of this city, about young artists gathered around the Bim-Bom and Co to theaters. This is probably one of the most important films for the inhabitants of Gdańsk, a film to which people return, as evidenced by the exhibition devoted to Morgenstern’s film, which is being prepared by the Gdańsk City Gallery.
Together with the participants of LOSt in Gdańsk! Summer School we watched “Goodbye, Till Tomorrow”. Before the film – a lecture, after the film – a short quiz. Then we encouraged them to get to know Gdańsk, wandering its streets in the footsteps of Jacek and Margueritte. Neptune’s Fountain, Rybackie Pobrzeże, St. Mary’s Basilica, Market Hall, Piwna Street – these places were visited by students to impersonate the characters of the film and reproduce shots from the film. The effects of their walk around Gdańsk are wonderful!
